Men’s Soccer Preview
CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men’s soccer team returns home to face No. 25 Georgia Southern at Patriots Point Tuesday, September 22, with a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.
The Cougars enter the match after a 4-2 loss at UNCW on Sept. 20. Charleston answered with a strike of its own in the 21st minute after a Pavel Dashin shot rebounded to the foot of Matt Lenert, who tied the match 1-1. The Cougars then took a 2-1 lead when Lenert converted a penalty kick to the upper left corner of the net. The goal was his second penalty conversion of the season and fourth overall.
Earlier in the week, Charleston earned a 1-0 victory at Furman. Noah Gold scored his first goal of the season on a free kick just before halftime, while goalkeeper Jourdan Schumacher made three second-half saves to secure his fourth shutout of the year. The win was Charleston’s second-ranked victory this fall, following a 2-0 result over then-No. 15 North Carolina on Sept. 1.
Tuesday will mark the 17th all-time meeting between the Cougars and Eagles. Georgia Southern claimed the most recent contest in 2024 with a 2-1 win in Statesboro, while D'Ambrosio provided the lone Charleston goal. The Eagles hold a 6-0-1 advantage in the series.
Georgia Southern enters the match ranked No. 25 nationally and off to a strong start this fall.
Tuesday’s contest will also feature Tie Dye Tuesday, where the first 100 fans can tie-dye their own Charleston Soccer T-shirt at the main entrance. Fans are additionally encouraged to bring nonperishable food items to support the Cougar Pantry Collection, an initiative to fight food insecurity within the Charleston community.
